Plan for Recovery, Not Just Successful Backup Jobs

Accidental deletion, hardware failure, ransomware and site outages can interrupt a business in different ways. Rawat Al Makan helps organisations in Muscat and across Oman compare backup solutions and disaster recovery services around what must be recovered and how quickly it is needed.

This page helps you compare vendors and design a recovery approach. For details of that specific product family, visit our existing Acronis cyber protection and backup page. We keep product selection separate from recovery planning so that one brand is not the default for every workload.

Replacing the underlying hardware? Plan business server supply and installation or NAS and storage expansion alongside backup and restore testing. Production storage and recoverable backup copies have different roles.

Multi-Brand Backup Options

Workload support, product editions, current availability and vendor entitlements are verified before quotation. This comparison is not a claim of authorization for every vendor.

Consider backup and cyber protection options for supported endpoints, servers and cloud workloads. Review storage, retention and recovery features in the proposed edition.

Explore Acronis solutions

Compare workload backup and replication options, repository design and Microsoft 365 protection. Check the relevant product, licence model and storage requirements.

Discuss enterprise data protection for complex environments, with workload support, policy administration and recovery objectives scoped before selection.

Review the relevant backup product, supported workloads and current product ownership, lifecycle and support arrangements before planning a renewal or migration.

Assess backup and replication options for supported virtual, physical and cloud environments. Include repository capacity and recovery testing in the design.

Explore business continuity and SaaS protection options. Verify service availability, hardware requirements, cloud region and retention for the selected offering.

Compare Barracuda Backup for supported server and application workloads, and Cloud-to-Cloud Backup where SaaS protection is required. Confirm appliance, capacity, replication and subscription requirements for the selected product.

Review Microsoft 365 Backup for supported Exchange Online, SharePoint and OneDrive data. Check consumption billing, retention and restore scope; this is not a general server backup or a separately located off-platform copy.

Consider Synology Active Backup products on compatible NAS models for supported business or Microsoft 365 workloads. Validate model support, repository sizing and separately protected copies; RAID alone is not backup.

Server, Virtual Machine & Microsoft 365 Backup

Choose protection around the data you actually use: file shares, databases, business applications, user devices and cloud mailboxes. Not every product supports every workload or restores it at the same level.

  • Inventory physical servers, virtual machines and supported cloud services.
  • Agree backup frequency, retention, encryption and access roles.
  • Check application-aware processing and restore compatibility.
  • Plan storage capacity, growth and off-site or cloud transfer costs.

Ransomware Recovery & Business Continuity Planning

A backup connected to the same compromised accounts may also be at risk. Review administrative separation, offline or immutable copies where supported, and the infrastructure needed to restore clean data.

  • Define recovery point objectives (acceptable data loss).
  • Define recovery time objectives (target restoration time).
  • Test sample restores and application dependencies.
  • Record recovery owners, escalation contacts and failback steps.

Recovery objectives are design targets, not unconditional guarantees. Combine the plan with endpoint protection and restricted administrator access.

Backup Implementation, Testing & Support

Assessment & Licensing

Review workload counts, data size, growth and existing subscriptions. Compare editions and storage costs against your retention and recovery requirements.

Deployment & Policies

Configure jobs, repositories, credentials and retention. Verify storage regions and access arrangements against your documented requirements.

Restore Tests & Handover

Agree representative restore tests, record results and document the runbook. Include key availability and application recovery dependencies in handover.

Renewals & Ongoing Review

Scope job checks, failed-job escalation, capacity reviews and retesting. Monitoring hours and recovery assistance are stated explicitly in the support proposal.

Microsoft 365 Backup: Mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint & Teams

Moving to cloud applications does not remove the need to decide how deleted or changed business data will be recovered. Review Exchange Online mailboxes, OneDrive files, SharePoint sites and supported Teams data separately: coverage and restore granularity vary between backup products.

Coverage & Retention

Count users, shared mailboxes and sites. Check departed-user handling, storage limits and whether the selected service covers the data types you rely on.

Access & Location

Review tenant permissions, separate administrative access, encryption and storage regions. A backup must meet your own residency and contractual requirements.

Restore Validation

Test an individual message or file and a representative larger restore. Confirm permissions, version recovery and the destination before approving the service.

Compare the applicable Acronis, Veeam, Datto and other supported offerings for the same coverage and retention. Native retention and synchronisation should not be assumed to provide an independent backup copy.

On-Premises, Cloud & Hybrid Backup in Oman

A practical design may combine a local copy for restores with a separately protected off-site copy. A 3-2-1 approach is a useful starting point, but independence, restore tests and access control matter more than simply counting copies.

Backup architecture selection criteria
ArchitecturePotential fitCosts and constraints to check
Local repositoryOn-site restores and environments with limited upload capacity.Hardware capacity, site failure exposure, access separation and replacement planning.
Cloud or off-site storageCopies outside the primary site and supported cloud-workload protection.Region, bandwidth, transfer fees, retrieval time, retention and administrator permissions.
Hybrid designLocal restore options combined with off-site resilience.Replication checks, multiple cost components, consistency and tested recovery from each location.

Immutability can help resist changes to stored copies where supported and correctly configured. It does not remove the need to protect credentials, monitor jobs and retain clean restore points.

Disaster Recovery Testing & Backup Renewal Review

Use a recovery exercise to check more than whether a file can be downloaded. For an ERP, accounting or line-of-business application, include its database, identity dependencies, network settings and the people who will validate the recovered service.

  • Agree a safe test environment and representative restore points.
  • Record measured restore time and data currency against your objectives.
  • Check encryption-key access and administrator recovery procedures.
  • Review storage growth, licence changes and restore costs before renewal.

Share workload counts, data size, retention needs and the acceptable downtime for each critical application. This allows a meaningful comparison of backup software, storage and recovery assistance without quoting a misleading flat price.

Backup & Recovery FAQs

What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

Backup creates recoverable copies of data. Disaster recovery plans how applications and infrastructure will return to service after an outage, including dependencies, recovery locations, responsibilities and testing. A successful backup job alone does not prove that the business can recover.

Which backup brands can we compare in Oman?

Discuss Acronis, Veeam, Commvault, Veritas, NAKIVO, Datto, Barracuda, Microsoft 365 Backup and Synology Active Backup options. Suitability depends on workloads, deployment, storage and licensing. We confirm current availability and support arrangements before quoting; listing a brand does not imply authorization for every vendor.

Does Microsoft 365 need a separate backup?

Review your retention settings, recovery windows and business requirements. Native retention, synchronisation and third-party backup serve different purposes. A separately managed backup may be appropriate when you need different retention, recovery or administrative separation.

Can you guarantee recovery after ransomware?

No solution guarantees recovery from every incident. Separately protected or immutable copies, restricted access and regular restore tests can improve resilience. Recovery still depends on clean restore points, accessible infrastructure and a tested response plan.

How much does backup and disaster recovery cost in Oman?

Cost depends on workloads, data volume, growth, retention, storage location, recovery objectives and support scope. Include storage, cloud transfer, restore testing and implementation costs when comparing quotations.

Will our backup data stay in Oman?

Data location depends on the selected storage provider and architecture. Specify residency requirements before purchase so storage regions, replication locations, contractual terms and access arrangements can be reviewed. We do not assume all cloud backups remain in Oman.
